What makes your community Special?

The best thing about Cambridge Bay is the many and varied activities that are possible in and around our community. The road system extends many kilometres from town in three directions. Many families have cabins just off of these roads so that they can enjoy the quiet beauty of the Arctic landscape as well as the great fishing in the Ocean and in the lakes around Cambridge Bay. Wildlife can be found very close to Cambridge Bay (swans, caribou, Musk-oxen, Fox, Arctic Hare, Geese and many others). The community of Cambridge Bay is surrounded by landmarks that include Mount Pelly, Lady Pelly and Augustus Hills as well as many lakes. Each spring, Cambridge Bay residents enjoy the Umingmak Frolics. Games, races, dances and other activities fill a week of fun for our community in the spring sunshine. In summer, our community hosts a music festival that celebrates contemporary and traditional northern music.

Other special activities:

Drum dances, berry picking, feasts, hiking, ski-dooing, traditional dances, boating, skating, biking around town, playing hockey, hunting, dog teams, trapping, square dances, camping, net fishing

Nunavut will bring about positive changes in the channels of government. All people in Nunavut look forward to the possibility of more jobs for those who live here as well as more direct decision-making by Inuit. We do not expect that Nunavut will bring about any major changes to our daily lives. We enjoy our peaceful lives here in the Arctic.
