First Day Covers from the Queen Elizabeth II Silver Jubilee Series, 1977
Queen Elizabeth II 1977 Silver Jubilee postage stamps
Canada, occupying nearly half of the North American continent, is the
world's second largest country, second only to the Soviet Union. Much of Canada remains sparsely populated; eighty-five percent of the populace resides within two hundred miles of the country's southern border.
The stamp commemorating the Queen's Silver Jubilee features a formal portrait of Queen Elizabeth. The stamp records two firsts for Canadian issues: the use of a new typeface, known as Cartier, and foil stamping. The denomination "25" was silver stamped, drawing attention to its double significance for this issue. The First Day Covers were postmarked on February 4, 1977, in the nation's capital, Ottawa.
