Åland Maritime Museum
A well-illustrated tour through the museum's large collection of sailing ship artifacts, including some beautiful figureheads.

Bygdøy - Oslo's Museum Centre
For anyone with even a passing interest in history, Norway offers one of the finest networks of museums anywhere. On the Bygdøy peninsula, 5 museums are located within a few blocks of each other.

Akershus Fortress
This Medieval castle and Royal Residence dates to 1299 - no photos, and the text is in Norwegian.

Göteborg Ship Museum
A photo and brief description of their 14 boats and ships, from a lifeboat to a destroyer.

Kulturnett
This Norwegian-language site provides a guide to 800 museums in Norway, and a large number of exhibitions.

Nćs Iron Works Museum
This iron works is almost intact and completely preserved, consisting of buildings, machinery and equipment which date back to the 17th, 18th and the 19th centuries.

Norsk Bergverksmuseum
The national mining museum. In Norwegian only.

Norwegian Aviation Museum
This large, well-illustrated site has a great deal of information on subjects from polar explorations to search and rescue and specs on specific aircraft.

Norwegian Emigrant Museum
A very nice site devoted to Norwegians who emigrated to America, then returned.

Norwegian Maritime Museum
A large museum, whose collection includes 2 important ships. Most text is only in Norwegian.

Norwegian Museum of Science and Technology
Located in Oslo, the museum exhibits show the advance of technology from waterwheels to cars, planes and computers.

Orkla Industrial Museum
A mining museum where you can actually walk into an old mine.

Reconstruction Museum
Located in Hammerfest, this museum preserves the memories of forced evacuation during WW II, and the later rebuilding.

Tromsø University Museum
Located in Tromsø, features include the most northerly botanical garden in the world.

The Royal Warship Vasa
Built in 1628 during Sweden's war with Poland - the Web site describes the ship, the life of a crew member, and the recovery of the wreck in 1961.

Skansen
This open-air museum in the middle of Stockholm recreates the past on the farm and in town.

Svenska Ostindiska Companiet
The Swedish East India Company is building a replica of one of their trading ships at Göteborg.
