The section from Seward to Anchorage is by far the most impressive part of the Alaska Railroad. The location seen in this photo is where "The Loop", a series of huge trestles that filled the entire valley, used to be. When diesel locomotives that could climb much steeper grades became available, the trestles were no longer needed.
