Ketchikan, Alaska, Photo Album
The processing of trees into pulp and lumber was for many years one of the two main employers in Ketchikan, the other being the fishing industry. The largest forest-industry employer, Ketchikan Pulp Company, closed in March 1997, and only a handful of the dozens of lumber mills that used to operate are still in business. Empty mill sites can be seen at several places along Tongass Narrows.
