Juneau, Alaska, Photo Album
The Alaska-Juneau (AJ) Mine and Gastineau Mill tour offers visitors the most detailed look at Juneau's gold mining past. The Gastineau Mill started processing ore from the AJ Mine (a.k.a. Perserverence Mine) in 1915, and by the time it closed just 6 years later, it had recovered 500,000 ounces of gold from 12 million tons of ore. The building in this photo was the Railroad Superintendent's home.
