The following summer, it was heavily damaged in a crash at this strip following an engine failure.

While operating with the 10th Rescue Squadron in 1947 at Elmendorf Air Force Base, this aircraft made a forced landing at Dago Lake on the Alaska Peninsula. Abandoned there, it was sold and stripped, then finally recovered by the Alaska Aviation Heritage Museum in 1984.

Until January 1952, Merrill Field was the main airport in Anchorage.
