John Macpherson, Pioneer of the North, Passes Away in Whitehorse, 1944

We regret having to announce the death of Mr. John Macpherson who passed away in the local hospital yesterday, to which institution he was removed the previous day.

Born in Scotland he spent some years in the United States and left Kansas City for the north during the gold rush days of '98. Building a boat near Lake Bennett he navigated it to Dawson. For many years he was a faithful employee as a blacksmith for the British Yukon Navigation Co. Ltd., when they operated the stage over the overland trail from Whitehorse to Dawson. For several years past he has been in failing health and passed to his reward at the ‘ripe age of 83 years.

He leaves to mourn his loss a widow and three daughters, Mrs. Owen Williams, Mrs. G. Walin and Mrs. Isobel Scott, all resident in Whitehorse, to whom sincerest sympathy is extended in their great bereavement.
