Alfred Martin on Survey crew dies Going to hospital, 1959

Fifty five year old Alfred Martin died while being flown to hospital Sunday from the Geological Survey's Operation Pelly Camp. Martin was cook for the survey crew.

He had been mildly ill in camp earlier but had passed it off as a mild irritation. The death is believed to be caused from a heart condition.

Martin was well known in Whitehorse and Mayo where he lived for about 15 years. Last winter he was employed at the Whitehorse Inn Tavern where he was injured by a lift used to move beer barrels.

He was born in South Africa and has a sister living in the United States. Funeral arrangements have not been announced yet.
