The History of Kachemak
Kachemak is on the East Road, adjacent to Homer, on the Kenai Peninsula. It is on the northern shore of Kachemak Bay. It lies at approximately
59° 35' N Latitude, 151° 52' W Longitude (Sec. 23, T006S, R013W, Seward Meridian). The community is located in the Homer Recording District. The
area encompasses 2 sq. miles of land and 0 sq. miles of water.
According to W.H. Dall of the U.S. Coast & Geodetic Survey, "Ka" means water, "chek" means cliff, and "mak" is a suffix meaning high, great or large.
