The History of McKinley Park

McKinley Park is on the George Parks Highway at the entrance to Denali National Park. The Park is home to Mount McKinley, or Denali as it was named by the Tanana Indians, meaning "the great one." At 20,237 feet (6,168 meters), it is the highest mountain on the North American continent. It lies at approximately 63° 43' N Latitude, 148° 55' W Longitude (Sec. 09, T014S, R007W, Fairbanks Meridian). The community is located in the Mt. McKinley Recording District. The area encompasses 72 sq. miles of land and 0 sq. miles of water.

The community has developed around Park Service employment and tourism-related facilities.
