The Dempster Highway

This map is from a 1972 brochure, "travelling yukon", published by the Yukon Dep't of Travel and Information. The information on the highway reads:

Mile 88 of Highway 3 marks the start to the Dempster Highway (Hwy. 11) which, on completion, will be North America's first public road to the Arctic Ocean. It's completed for 150 miles with services available only at Mile 123.

Note that the highway was never intended to run to the Arctic Ocean, but only Inuvik, on the Mackenzie River about 125 miles from the sea.
