Kivalina Lagoon, Alaska
(also known as Corwin Lagoon)
Located at 67° 57' N, 165° 13' W, approximately 75 miles northwest of Kotzebue.
The village shown in the postcard below was located at the north side of the lagoon, but
was moved early in the last century. The new village, known as Kivalina or Kivaliniq, is
now (2004) being moved again due to beach erosion. Moving the 377 inhabitants will cost between
$100 and $400 million.
