A SERIES OF 50
GOLD.
Dredging for Gold.
N. America.
Specially-designed steam dredgers are extensively used in America and Australia to work the gold-bearing gravel of the river beds.
The dredge, by means of an endless chain of buckets, brings up the gravel and empties it into a hopper. From this it passes into revolving screens
which separate the fine material from the coarse. The fine sand contains the bulk of the gold, which is extracted by means of quick-silvered plates.
