Gold Dredges in the North

Dateline: July 7, 2024.

    Dredge No. 12 was built by the Yuba Manufacturing Company of San Francisco in the 1930s, and first operated in Alaska, perhaps at Canyon Creek. In the Yukon, it operated on Dominion Creek at two different locations: from 1954 to 1960, and 1963 to 1965 at its current location. In November 1972, Parks Canada acquired Dredge No. 12 to use it for historical interpretive purposes.

    Ultimately, however, Parks Canada opted to focus its preservation efforts on Dredge No. 4 instead; as a result, Dredge No. 12 has languished at its current location, largely untouched since the late 1980s. The superstructure is in poor condition from vandalism and the elements, and the sectional steel hull is badly rusted.

    There is no road access to Dredge No. 12; it sits approximately 800 meters from the nearest road.

    In July 2024 the Government of Canada posted it at gcsurplus.ca to see if there was any interest in purchasing it.
