Highlights of History from The Whitehorse Star

The Whitehorse Pioneer Cemetery

The Whitehorse Star - Friday, April 21, 1939

ONE OF THE EARLY RESIDENTS OF WHITEHORSE PASSES AWAY IN HIS SLEEP, 1939

Mr. Thomas Dickson, who only arrived back in town from the coast on Saturday, passed away in his sleep on Sunday. Whilst outside he underwent an operation.

The late Mr. Dickson, who was a civil engineer by profession, was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, upwards of sixty years ago. He was a resident of Whitehorse in its early days. He and his brother, Harry, who is a surveyor by profession, at one time operated an office on the site where Bob Small's tinshop now stands. The brothers have done practically all the surveying both here and throughout the Territory. When the mining industry slumped here some years ago they moved to Dawson where Mr. Harry Dickson still resides.

The funeral service was held in the Masonic Temple here on Wednesday, the beautiful ceremony being conducted by Whitehorse Lodge No. 46, A.F. & A.M. of which the deceased was an honoured member. Interment took place in the Masonic plot of the local cemetery in the presence of a large number of the brethren.

Sincerest sympathy is extended to Mr. Harry Dickson and others in their bereavement.
